I was chatting with someone the other day about the magazine. A non-horsey person who sees an issue now and then. It made me go back 17 years to the day I started it. It’s hard to believe that this issue is the 260th!!! Matt, my production manager of eight years brings it to life on Page 15 with a showcase of every cover! May 1991, I remember feeling, at the same time, proud and scared to death to be launching a new publication that had a slim chance of succeeding (654 new pubs nationwide launched that year). I’d been in publishing in Europe and in the US for many years and I knew the odds. I also had no idea how to switch on a computer! I’d had support staff to do that for me. But I had my gut, a strong partner in my husband and a knowledge of what was out there in the Morgan industry when it came to options. By the end of nine months I was also confident enough to employ my first staff member (Karen Keyte). We made it up as we went, literally. Jamie Bloomquist came on board and wrote some interesting articles that put us on the map because they were not considered mainstream. We winged it day after day.

Any success the TMC has today is because of people that “got it” from the get-go and continued to get it. My journey has been joined by many wonderful people who’ve helped make a difference. They in turn, I believe, have been able to use this magazine as a stepping stone to their own journey of success. Each person has brought their own enthusiasm and dedication to the table. I now live and work under the same roof and I do know that I have a team upstairs that cares about what you care about. In addition we have built an amazing crew of field reporters and writers out there who also feel the same about this magazine. I couldn’t exist without them.

I know some of you still have the early issues and have been on the same journey with me. Don’t be shy about coming up with suggestions about what you’d like to see in TMC, who you’d like to see featured, etc. There’s plenty of us here willing to listen, whether or not we’re based here in RI or wherever we live and enjoy our Morgans.

These are busy months ahead. I’ll be out and about and as enthusiastic as ever to try and provide the kind of magazine you want to see. Talk to us or email us at MorConnect@gmail.com

Until I see you next...
